This exhibition is the 40th anniversary celebration of the television programme ‘Tussen Kunst en Kitsch’ (‘Between Art and Kitsch’), the Dutch equivalent of the British ‘Antiques Roadshow’. In the galleries, you will find a selection of the unique, amusing and spectacular objects that have featured on the popular TV show in the past four decades. The museum collaborated with the Dutch public broadcasting organisation AVROTROS to track down the owners of items that have been appraised by experts on the programme over the years, so that we could exhibit the art, antiques and curiosities in the castle. The personal stories that accompany the objects are what makes the TV show so special, and we were keen for these stories to feature in the exhibition.
Some 80 objects from more than ten centuries of history are on display
here: paintings, books, jewels, silverware, furniture, toys and teapots. The exhibition reveals the wealth and diversity of objects that the programme has uncovered. The objects are presented together in different galleries, loosely referencing the historical character of this castle as a residence. You will find toys in the nursery, books and unusual objects in the library, and silverware in the dining room.
